Update: NH4J Readings

October 26, 2009

It continues to be our prayer that the Lord will use NewHope4Justice, our readings and our conversations, to broaden NHF’s view of His sovereign & good will, and to give us purer & truer motives for broadcasting His mercy & majesty throughout our community.

Kim F. has done an amazing job in pulling together a variety of materials for our group to read & discuss.  All are welcome to read along with us at home (or at your own pace), and of course, to join us in person to talk & pray (and eat!) together.

  • This Thursday, October 29th, 7.00p @ Kim F.’s home
  • Topic: “Rising Inequality & the Environment of Childhood Poverty”
  • Readings: Rich Christians…, Chapter 1; Isaiah 1; Amos 1
  • Further Readings: please contact Kim F. for relevant PDFs & summaries

Update: D. & J. (China)

October 19, 2009

Dear pr^er partners,

I was about to send exciting news of praise as well as pr^er requests for recent security concerns.  However, both my praise and pr^er concerns need to be put in the back burner for now.  After my time with two [local] leaders, I realized that my local brothers are engaging in intense spiritual battles at a different magnitude that need your pr^ers this week: Read the rest of this entry »

Just For Fun …

October 16, 2009

Our town is famous!

Tarrytown makes an illustrious appearance in today’s New York Times.

Question(s) of the bi-week: in Scripture, God clearly inclines Himself toward orphans, widows, aliens and the poor.  But these are not just ‘the other folks’; God is also talking about us.  Where do you see proof of this in His Word?  How does this change how you view ‘the other folks’?  How does this change how you view yourself?

*****

What a great evening spent with Kim (Dr. Ferguson, if you’re nasty!), brainstorming & talking into formation the New Hope 4 Justice reading group!   Through our readings, discussions and prayer times, we hope to:

  • (1) gain a deeper understanding of “justice” as God sees it,
  • (2) align our hearts more closely with His so that we may mirror His image more accurately in our individual & corporate lives, and
  • (3) provide a stronger foundation of support & prayer for NHF’s individual & corporate activities.

Update From Stan

October 14, 2009

Our brother Stan is coming home soon, so let’s bring him home safely on the wings of our prayers! Here’s an update via Sunny …

He said he is doing ok today, the last 3 days were tough. I don’t know what he means by “tough”.  I missed his phone call today. He said today is their last day to treat the people.  They are heading back home tomorrow. (How time passed so quickly).

Please pray for him and his team members, that:

  • they may be able to reflect on what God has done for them during this trip
  • they would have time to worship and to praise God even in the midst of their busy schedule and in their weary/tired state
  • they may hear the words of God
  • this experience will lead them into something greater in the future for God’s glory
  • they will have a safe trip back home
  • upon their arrival, they will transition smoothly to their routines here
  • God will continue to protect them spiritual attack
