December “Name That Tune”

December 29, 2008

What a pleasure to have joined together for another month of Worship Services.  This December, it felt especially poignant and heart-rending to consider the birth of our Saviour and sing of the little town of Bethlehem, even as that region is ever riddled with hatred and violence.  And so, we continue to pray and intercede, continue to call upon the power and grace of our Living God, and continue to worship He who is ever sovereign.

Again, please feel free to ask any member of the Worship Team for complete lyrics and/or references to original recordings of any of the worship songs we lifted up together this month.  Looking forward to a new year of praising our God together … Read the rest of this entry »

Christmas Greetings from NHC

December 25, 2008

A Christmas Eve letter from our brothers & sisters at NHC is up at Ukraine08 (soon to be Ukraine 09!).  Here they are, in person:

“Perspectives on the World Christian Movement” is a semester-long course designed to present God’s purpose for His Creation and encourage each Christian believer to participate in His global movement so as to “live with vital, strategic significance.”  Fancy language aside, I think this just means that those who take “Perspectives” learn to see the world more clearly through God’s eyes, and love & serve Him better for it.

I don’t know a Christian who would say he or she doesn’t want to draw close to the heart of God, but when it comes to devoting four months to attending class and doing – gasp! – academic work, the question of “to take or not to take?” becomes harder to answer.  Please allow this faux-treatise, “IN DEFENCE OF PERSPECTIVES,” help you answer that question with “to take!”

C'mere you little photons

Bethel Lutheran Church in CA recently installed 150 solar panels in order to become “good stewards of the world God has given us.” I can’t argue with that! You can read the entire article here.

The Gospel Coalition has added some material to its website, and has published the December issue of its Themelios journal. There are some good articles in there, ranging from ministering to the poor to the life of the Christian academic. If you haven’t checked this site out, it’s worth spending some of your Christmas vacation exploring the resources on the site. As mentioned in an earlier post, the Gospel Coalition is holding a conference, April 21-23, in Chicago. Spring is just around the corner, so pencil it in.

The following video is NOT part of the new material (some of the new stuff can’t be embedded here), but it is an interesting conversation given the outreach ideas proposed by various members of NHF. This is only part 1 of 6, so check out the rest on YouTube. Enjoy!

Worship 08 [VIDEO]

December 17, 2008

A number of NHF folks went to Worship 08 and had a great time. Unfortunately, not all of us got to go. The power of the Internet, however, can give us a taste of what happened! Here’s a funny moment from the conference. A longer workshop led by the guys from Sovereign Grace follows after the jump. Enjoy!
