Acts Study: My Favorite Part, Part 1

October 20, 2008

The Women’s Ministry finished studying the book of Acts a few weeks ago. For those of you who were unable to join us, we wanted you to know that God taught us lots of wonderful things. I, for one, was moved by the story of the conversion of the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:26-40). Here is this guy, traveling along reading Isaiah, when God sends Philip to talk to him about his faith…

As the eunuch is reading Isaiah 53, he comes upon a passage that he can’t understand, and Philip is right there to answer his questions. They talk about the savior, “the one who was led as a lamb to the slaughter,” and immediately, this man asks to be baptized into the faith. Imagine them, the road-weary evangelist and the great royal treasurer wading into the waters of a nearby stream, overcome with the joy of seeing and knowing Christ together. It’s a beautiful image, but even more beautiful is the idea that perhaps after the eunuch was baptized, he continued reading to find the beautiful promises of Isaiah 54, which says that even the “barren” of the earth will bear much fruit in the name of the Lord.

God is good and He loves us with such specificity…
