On Saturday, Oct. 3rd, the NHF Men joined together for a 2 hour breakfast at the Doral Arrowwood resort in Rye.  Acting as if they didn’t eat all week, they stuffed themselves with plates piled high of waffles, omelettes, bacon, cereals, fruit, and a few cups of hot brew. Soon thereafter, they joined together in a conference room to discuss the life of William Wilberforce, the British politician, philanthropist, leader who abolished the slave trade, child of God, and brother in Christ.

After a great time of prayer and reflection, the men took advantage of the open Saturday to enjoy the golf links and tennis courts of Westchester County. For pictures, please click here.

If you have not been able to join for a Band of Brothers meeting, we would love for you to join this fall.

This past Sunday, NHF played their first playoff game against Chodae KM, a team that they had already beaten twice during the regular season.  Despite missing many of their regulars, NHF was looking to carry the momentum gained from winning their last 4 games of the season into the playoffs.  However, the high-octane offense of Chodae proved to be too much for NHF to handle.

It’s late and it’s been a long day, but in case you were waiting by your computer with bated breath, refreshing your browser over and over again to see if a recap of NHF’s day at the Westchester County Asian American Heritage Festival had been posted, here’s a little tidbit.  (When we’ve all slept off our fresh-air tiredness, we’ll post some pictures too, and perhaps some quiplets from those who joined us to spend the beautiful day together.)

Before anything else is said, glory & praise must be lifted up to God for the incredible opportunity for NHF to get out there and represent, before our immediate community, the expression of our Christian faith as an integral part of the Asian-American journey.  Thanks also to our brothers of the Men’s Ministry for doing all the hard work, all the little but significant things that are always taken for granted but should never be.  And finally, God bless Weijing for his infectious love for our community, his unending enthusiasm to motivate us together for this day, his deep desire for all to come to know Christ, and his encouragement to us to play a vital role in being Christ’s ambassadors.

A short but wonderfully touching reflection from Weijing, after the jump …

CompTooter Addiction Begone!

February 28, 2009

I’ve heard that there are a few of us, usually men, that mysteriously disappear into a magic box when they get home. This box is sometimes called a “Computer” or “Kingdom Domination Simulator” or “Responsibility Compactor” or “I’m Actually Working Reflector.” For those of us <!cough!> that occasionally lose track of time when surfing the InterWebs, etc., the following tool can help: E.ggTimer.com!

T-Minus 43s to go!

The Power of Christ compels you!

EggTimer is about as simple as you can get. The cool thing is, you can control how long of a countdown you want by typing directly into the URL (e.g., http://E.ggTimer.com/1hour). As the “/1minute” screenshot suggests, the black lines at the top and bottom of your browser window will gradually move to the right as time runs out. I find the timer helps me structure my time. I don’t keep it on-screen all the time (that would be too stressful!), but the knowledge that E.ggTimer is ticking down subdues my more insidious procrastination tendencies.

So go ahead, disappear into the magic box! Just set a boundary condition. E.ggTimer’s ounce of prevention will  help you avoid a ‘we have to talk’ moment.

Happy Chinese New Year…

Valentine’s Day is approaching. If you haven’t already planned your “perfect” romantic getaway, may I remind you that the upcoming Weekend to Remember conference will be held in Hershey, PA? Chocolates and chock-full of teaching on God design for marriage — together in one place. YUM!!!

I feel 5 pounds lighter!

I feel 5 pounds lighter!

You know you’ve always wondered! Here’s your chance at some real-time weight feedback! Gastrointestinal battles aside, the NHF Biggest Loser competition is coming to a close this weekend. I, for one, am completely out of the running, but stay tuned for where the money raised will be donated.

Chae taking it all in

Tim Keller spoke at Friday’s New Canaan Society breakfast meeting and asked the question “How can we handle suffering (at the hands of others) with grace and forgiveness?” He touched on themes raised in his book, The Reason for God, and used the story of Joseph to illustrate his points. The meeting was held at Woodway Country Club in Darien. Apparently, NCS is growing at a rapid clip. They are holding their annual retreat at the Homestead in Hot Springs, VA. You can check out their website for more details. A few highlights: Read the rest of this entry »
